For the Love of Beer

I love Beer! I’m not in this business for the money. I love pale ales, stouts, Hoppy IPA’s and bitter IPA’s. I love a pilsner, a helles, a wit and a Belgian blonde. But most importantly I love variety. I will occasionally get fast food if I’m hungry and need something quick, but I’d much rather sit down and eat a meal that has flavour and is not mass-produced. I also won’t eat the same meal each day. So why do people choose the same drink whenever they go out?

My favourite part of this “job” is planning for my next beer. Being creative and thinking about what we can make and how the different ingredients or hops will affect the overall recipe. Then I’ll speak to my brewer and he’ll correct my mistakes and we’ll have something sort of commonality that tastes great, or it is back to the drawing board. One of the best things I hear about the craft beer business is that each batch is unique, this isn’t to say that they aren’t very similar – although I do know of a few craft breweries who’ve changed their recipe multiple times, it just has to taste good every time. We’ve dumped whole batches that weren’t up to snuff.
